The pilot foundation of Biocrete

Concrete, the most common building material, accounts for about 7% of global CO2 emissions. Given its versatility and durability, finding alternatives is difficult. This led Snøhetta to seek eco-friendly solutions for sustainable building.Biocrete emerged from the idea of using construction waste to lower our carbon footprint. It combines wood waste with concrete.

In the summer of 2023, we went to Bjørkelangen, located outside of Oslo, to document the pilot casting and foundation of Biocrete.
